Midwife Kaitlin Gauna, LM, CPM
I am the youngest of six kids and my mother's fourth homebirth. I came so quickly that my father caught me, my sister named me, and I was weighed on a fruit scale at our local supermarket. I guess that is where my love for birth, and adventure, were, well, born.
I attended a birth for the first time at the age of ten, and by sixteen started providing doula support for family members. I was frequently jealous of the midwife's "job" and quickly found it was my calling. I started the journey to become a midwife with medical missions. I trained as a student midwife in developing countries and provided midwifery care in East Africa and India. I spent two years traveling and one year practicing as a hospital midwife, providing care in extreme circumstances with minimal resources. This is where my passion for creating a safe birthing environment grew. I spent five years becoming a licensed midwife in Florida and graduated in 2018. I was an intern at one of Central Florida's busiest birth centers for three years. I loved all the families that entrusted me with their care, but I wanted to slow things down to be more present with clients and my family. So, in 2019 I started Moments Midwifery. My rock and support through this journey has been my amazing husband. Together since 2008 and married since 2012, we have experienced two miscarriages and celebrate having two healthy daughters, both delivered safely at home under the care of midwives. Outside of midwifery, I also have a passion for drowning prevention and work as an infant survival swim swimming instructor. You can learn more at www.lagunababies.com. |
