TRULY PERSONALIZED CARE FOR YOUR PREGNANCY

Have you ever had an experience where you felt like just another client?
With us, you and your baby are our passion. Prenatal visits are scheduled to be thirty to sixty minutes long, so there is plenty of time to answer questions without a need to rush. Our goal is that you feel safe and comfortable during your time with us, and that you stay until each of your concerns has been addressed. Also, there is only one midwife, so there is never a need to consistently repeat information.

Routine prenatal care takes place in a safe and comfortable environment. Children and family members are welcomed and encouraged to come and take an active part in the pregnancy during your prenatal care.

SCHEDULE OF VISITS

First time considering midwifery care? Knowing what is ahead may help you prepare.
Prenatal care can begin as soon as you know you are pregnant. Visits are scheduled every four weeks up until your 28th week of pregnancy, every two weeks until your 36th week, then weekly until birth (delivering at home is safe between 37-42 weeks).

Each visit includes:
  • Time to answer your questions
  • Education & counseling
  • Weight, Blood pressure, Urine dip (checking for protein and glucose)
  • Uterine size/fundal height
  • Fetal heart rate, activity, & position (late pregnancy)
  • Overall assessment of your physical & emotional well-being

LABOR & DELIVERY

Pregnant mother
Ever wonder what happens at a homebirth?
During labor we come to your home, arriving when you are ready for us. We bring a qualified assistant, in addition to medication and equipment used as necessary to keep home birth safe (we discuss possible complications and safety measures beforehand) so you can approach your birth with confidence, knowing we will openly discuss any concerns that may arise, and we will transfer care to a near hospital if ever needed or desired, but 85%-90% of homebirths remain safely and comfortably at home.
During your labor and delivery we will:
  • Assess the condition of you & baby throughout labor via intermittent monitoring & routine vitals/exams
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment
  • Suture vaginal lacerations (first and second degree)
  • Provide/administer emergent care if indicated
  • A complete newborn examination
  • Assist with establishing breastfeeding
  • Clean up after the birth (but birth at home is not often messy)
After the birth we stay for at least two hours. We will not leave unless both you and your baby have stable vitals and are resting comfortably.

POSTPARTUM

You've had the baby, now what? Are you prepared for postpartum?
It takes many months to grow a baby, but it often takes longer for your body to recover from having one, so it is best to be prepared, and the postpartum period is the foundation of your post pregnancy health, and the start of a new journey with your family.
Pregnant mother

Postpartum visits are done as scheduled:
  1. 24-48 hours after the birth (in your home)
  2. Two to three weeks after the birth (in office)
  3. Six to eight weeks after the birth (in office)
During these visits we will:
  • Examine your vitals, sutures (if indicated), breastfeeding (if you choose to do so), and your overall emotional well-being.
  • Complete any final labs
  • Discuss postpartum mood disorders and possible ways to prevent or navigate them
For your baby we will:
  • File for the baby's birth certificate and social security card (within 5 days of the birth).
  • Complete the metabolic screening, and congenital heart disease screening, and provide you with a prescription for their hearing screening.
These tests do NOT replace the need to see a pediatrician. You are encouraged to have chosen a pediatrician by 36 weeks of pregnancy, and will be advised to see them within 24 hours of the birth.
Do you find unexpected expenses stressful? We do too.
Moments Midwifery aims to meet each individual's needs, we also aim to make the process as relaxed as possible so that you can enjoy your pregnancy to the fullest, without experiencing the stress of hidden costs. For this reason, we have many services included in the cost of your care, such as routine labs and ultrasounds. If we believe your care may have special circumstances that require additional services, we will let you know as far in advanced as possible so that your family is able to plan accordingly.
